Beavers Blank Simpson to Close out Season

Senior Kellyn Arnold made the most of her final career match by scoring a pair of first half goals on Tuesday night against Simpson College to help lift the Buena Vista women's soccer team to a 2-0 triumph over the Storm (9-8, 2-5 IIAC) in its season finale.

Arnold, who finished with a match-high seven shots, broke a scoreless match late in the 23rd minute with her 19th goal of the year. With nearly 10 minutes left in the match, she then converted a header in front of the goal, set up by a pair of nice passes from fellow senior Shelby Ripperger and freshman Tori Carson.

After holding a 6-3 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes, the Beavers continued to put the pressure on the Storm defensive throughout the second half by out-shooting them, 7-1.

Arnold finishes the season as the Iowa Conference's leading scorer with 20 goals and wraps up her career with 48. Ripperger, meanwhile, chalked up her team-leading and IIAC leading 13th assist, while Carson finishes the year with 10 assists in addition to her 16 goals.

The win by the Beavers was the program's first-ever triumph over Simpson College and also secured the team's first winning season in program history (10-8-1).

The match was the final one in the careers of Arnold, Ripperger, Turissa Moreland and Casey Tims.
